Karl-Renner-Institut and the Foundation for European Progressive Studies (FEPS) are organising the seventh iteration of the Next Left Lectures series. Hosted by MEP Andreas Schieder, the lecture ‘How Progressives should think about migration’ will be presented by Alan Manning, Professor of Economics at the London School of Economics and Political Science.
Progressives in many countries have struggled to address voters who are anxious about migration. Based on his recent book ‘Why immigration policy is hard and how to make it better’, Alan Manning, former chair of the UK Migration Advisory Committee, will outline the impacts of migration and what this means for policy and politics.
The lectures are an integral component of the Next Left Research Programme, launched in 2009. Introduced in 2022, they have quickly established themselves as an important forum for presenting the latest findings from leading European academics in exclusive, closed-door discussions with European policymakers. Notable lecturers in this series include Professor Tarik Abou-Chadi, Lord (Roger) Liddle, Professor Daphne Halikopoulou, Professor Simon Hix, Professor Jenny Andersson, and Professor Colin Crouch.
